The occurrence of acne during pregnancy is not predictable. Some pregnant women are surprised by their noticeable healthy skin while others are really having problems with the presence of acne on their face.
Some pregnant women experience that their acne is getting worse during pregnancy. This phenomenon is just normal since there are consistent hormonal changes which occur in a pregnant woman’s body. Hormones such as progesterone and estrogen become abundant when a woman is pregnant which may cause the skin to become more sensitive. This is the reason why some women experience outbreaks of acne during pregnancy.
It is just normal if women may notice that their acne is getting worse during pregnancy. When this happens there is nothing that you can do much to stop it. However, there is no such big deal since after giving birth; you will get back to your previous skin before you got pregnant.
The first three months of gestation is the time when acne becomes to worsen. This is the period when progesterone and estrogen levels are rising rapidly. Progesterone levels are more male like or androgenic than estrogen. This shift in your hormonal level makes the skin glands to give off more oil. This can lead to the occurrence of more acne. Also, during the first trimester your gestation, your sebaceous glands are more active and this can also cause more serious and often acne buildup.
A lactating woman should also be cautious with any acne treatment that she is using to fight off her acne. Any treatment that you take, either it be oral or topical can affect your breast milk negatively, which could be harmful to your child. It is therefore very important to consult your doctor over any acne treatment that you are going to take not only during your pregnancy but also during your lactating period.
Have fun during pregnancy and try not to be bothered too much about acne buildups as your skin will go back to its normal state afterward.
